Zebra Imaging 3D Prints

Written by Intrinsic

This article needs an update :S I'll try re-edit this article soon.. I was given a link to this by a friend a good while ago, I just changed the video-embed to something more recent. Check www.zebraimaging.com they have dynamic realtime displays (!) "Zebra Imaging has developed a holographic display that is capable of interactively generating natural true-3D images (with no “3D” eyewear)."

Old article text: It would've been awesome if one had just a sheet similar to this, if this said "sheet" had not only multi touch in 2D, but sensing distance to your hands, as a "holographic" control surface?! Albeit probably (from what it looks like) not very good in low-light conditions, unless err, backlit or something?

It could be displaying still and/or animated data/controls/whatever, and be instantly replaceable with relevant controls. For any performance control, as an instrument, AV, VJing, interactive control in general, that would've been awesome? Maybe I am just dreaming.. :)

But something I definitely would want to explore when/if the pricing on these arent too bad, it would be a great way to render 3D artpieces for wall/table display, generative art! Well, it will be exciting to follow this tech and see where it goes. In editing moment (25.aug.2010) they seem to be offering wall (vertical), and horizontal versions that would need light from 45 degree angle above, or straight above respectably.

I wish, as my friend said, that new tech like this was sooner available for peaceful usage, it seems their focus has been, as with a lot of new tech, military purposes. One might somewhat understand the prioritization (considering budgets), but not necessarily agree with it. The pricing on this stuff is probably still too much for a leighman's budget, although when I get more into generative art, I'll remember to ask them!
